A Railway Journey Across South Wales during the late 1950s and 1960s moves broadly across the area from east to west, it begins at Abergavenny in 1957 and concludes at Fishguard with the last BR steam visit during 1965.
Many long-closed railways, branch lines, plus some industrial locations are visited. These include: Brynmawr, Ebbw Vale, the Vale of Neath line, Crumlin viaduct, Walnut Tree viaduct, the Brecon & Merthyr route, Barry pier, Cowbridge, Treherbert, Cymmer Afan, the ex-Neath & Brecon Railway, Swansea Victoria, and Carmarthen. Steam is the predominant motive power, but a highlight is coverage of the Swansea & Mumbles Railway, colour images of this much missed tramway operated by electric traction are not common, yet, there are nine, plus six monochrome images, It is a time capsule from a long lost era and will appeal to railway enthusiasts, modellers, plus those interested in local history and industrial archaeology,
Virtually all of the photographs, a mixture of black and white plus colour, have never previously been published. All were taken by the author, his father, together with their friends Dennis Bath, Alan Maund, and Ellis James-Robertson; extensive and informative commentaries accompany the photographs.
