Approx 100 pages of colour and black & white photographs, plus commentaries. All the photographs were taken either by my late father or me, with a single exception - one by my late mother!
Main lines covered with both express passenger and heavy freight trains include: the Cotswold & Malvern Line from Oxford to Worcester and Hereford, the Lickey Bank and the route south to Gloucester and Bath, the competing Great Western Railway (GWR) line from Stratford on Avon to Cheltenham plus Banbury to Hatton Bank. Those who enjoy rural tranquillity will appreciate seeing long vanished railways, stations and trains at places across the South Midlands such as Chipping Norton, the Stratford on Avon & Midland Junction Railway (SMJR), Stow on the Wold, Fairford, Tetbury, the Golden Valley auto trains, Upton on Severn, Sharpness, Cinderford, Ross on Wye, Newent, Bromyard and Kington.
The area bounded by: Halesowen, Bromsgrove & Redditch in the north, Fenny Compton, Banbury & Oxford in the east, Witney, Swindon, Tetbury & Bath in the south and finally the Forest of Dean, Hereford, Kington & Presteigne in the west represents the extremes covered in the book.
